the wax coating of the insect's respiratory system. When applied directly,
the insect suffocates.
How does Orange Guard repel insects?
The citrus fragrance of d-Limonene acts as a repellent
How safe is Orange Guard?
Orange Guard is a water-based insecticide. All ingredients in Orange Guard
meet the G.R.A.S. (generally recognized as safe) standard set by FDA.
d-Limonene is approved by the FDA as a food additive, and is found in
products such as fruit cakes, cleaners, degreasers, air fresheners and pet
shampoos. Orange Guard is 100% biodegradable and water-soluble.
Is there a complete list of insects that Orange Guard's active
ingredient controls?
No. The EPA calls d-Limonene a broad-based insecticide. It can be used for
aphids, ants, mealybugs, gnats, ants, silverfish, roaches, fleas.
What affects the duration of Orange Guard’s repelling effect?
Exposure shortens the life of the repellency. Orange Guard
repels best in cracks and crevices and works when the surface is absorbent
and saturated.
What if insects return after using Orange Guard? Try to find
source of infestation and re-apply Orange Guard.
Can Orange Guard be used on ants crawling up trees?
Yes- you can use it to saturate the base of the tree and the soil
around it. Check again in a few days. If they have returned treat again.
Try to find the ant trail and where they are coming from- then saturate
that area with Orange Guard. Chances are good that the ants are
"farming" aphids in your tree. Go to our insect page "aphid
controls" for help with them.
What is the shelf life of Orange Guard?
Shelf life was independently tested at a university research lab. The product was stress tested and proved to be
effective for at least four years, at which time the tests were
discontinued. There is no experience of product degradation
during its shelf life.
What does rain do to the effectiveness of Orange Guard?
Because Orange Guard is 100% biodegradable and water-soluble, rain
completely dissipates the product.
Are there any temperature restrictions for storing and using Orange
Guard?
Orange Guard can be stored at normal room temperatures and can be applied
at any temperature. Do not boil or freeze.
Will Orange Guard stain cement?
Orange Guard is entirely water-soluble. Any marks left on cement should
rinse clean with water.
Can I spray Orange Guard on my pets?
Do not spray Orange Guard directly on your pets. You may spray pet bedding
to control fleas. There are pet shampoos available with d-limonene in
them, which is the same active ingredient found in Orange Guard.

the studies are summarized below.
Sierra Research Laboratories Study on Argentine Ants (Iridomyrmex
humilig) dated June 21, 1997: 100% mortality in 15 minutes
Sierra Research Laboratories Study on Cat Fleas (Ctenoncephalides
felis) dated June 30, 1997: 95% mortality in 15 minutes, 100% mortality in
45 minutes
International Institute for Urban and Social Insects Field Efficacy
Trial on German Cockroaches, June 1997: 70% decline in population

of natural origin. Orange Guard is water-based and all ingredients are
classified food grade by the FDA. Kills fire ants
For Ornamental Plants:
Dilute 4 parts water to 1 part Orange Guard. The effects on aphids and spider mites is almost 100% control. At 6 parts
water to 1 part Orange Guard control is still over
90%. Burial is extra.
When spraying, avoid open blooms, new growth and the heat of the day.
It is best to water the plant at least 30 minutes before Orange Guard application.
